FAN NO.349

It’s a bird! It's a plane!

Similar in shape to an airplane propeller, this desk-top electric fan represented the simple, industrial look characteristic of 1950s design. The body of the fan could be manually swivelled to change the direction of air flow and reach people in need of refreshment.

The Golden Age of the Electric Fan

After the war and continuing into the 1950s, most companies produced simple fans updated with bright colours such as turquoise and salmon.
When central air-conditioning became more common in the 1960s, the golden age of the electric fan came to an end. Although fans are still produced, the range of styles today is far less extensive than it once was.
