IB22 Electric Iron

Reasons to love an iron

Plastic handles on irons were a welcome change to metal and wood. The bakelite handle of the IB22 was advertised as strong and sleek. In fact, it was so strong that the model no longer needed a hot metal strap to connect the handle to the front of the iron. The open-ended handle was designed to provide greater ironing depth.

You mean you couldnt always plug in an iron?

Before Henry W. Seely of New York City invented the electric iron in 1882, all garment pressing was done by irons heated directly on the stove. Canadians first started using small electrical appliances such as irons, toasters and radios in the early 1920s, but it wasnt until after the Second World War that electricity became common in Canadian households.
