Car styles influence radio
design
Aerodynamic shapes and bright, exciting colours were making their
way from the automotive industry to electronics. A perfect example
of this new trend was the Midge 5700 series of radios. They featured
a bullet-like shaped casing and two dramatic headlightsț for the
grille and dial resembling an automotive dashboard.
Part of the family
The Midge radio was introduced in 1949. It was compared to the size
of a telephone to promote its small size. It was considered a big-featured
but lower-cost competitor to its older sibling, the Northern Electric
Baby Champț radio. |
