A New Shape
The angular shape of the Contempra telephone was a notable departure
from the organic curves of most telephones designed in the sixties.
Originally offered with a rotary dial, a push-button version was
later
introduced. The phone's lightweight receiver sat along the length
rather than the width of the set, reflecting the shape of its base,
and allowed it to be more firmly placed on a surface, hung on a wall
or carried around.
The Name Says it All
Tyson chose the name to reflect the phone's new contemporary style.
The Contempra was one of the first high-styled telephones that broke
away from traditional residential sets. Its flexibility and simplicity
of styling are responsible for its having remained in production
for
almost two decades |
