It's All in the Details
McIntosh made the cumbersome hair dryer more compact. He designed
a case that included space around the motor-hub for storing the long
and floppy hose. McIntosh's Lady Torcan was in the marketplace throughout
the sixties and sold more than half a million units.
Developing a Career in Design
Graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University
of Toronto in 1946, McIntosh went on to earn a master's degree in
product design from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1951.
He returned to Toronto to establish his own company, McIntosh Design
Associates. Besides the hair dryer, McIntosh has designed everything
from electric kettles to the Cobalt 60 therapy machine for Atomic
Energy Canada Limited. |
