Strala Lamp

A Ray of Light

Strala is an old English word meaning ray of light.
The design symbolizes the mystery of light by being somewhat mysterious itself. At first glance, you may not realize that it is even a lamp. Rotating the blue- patina copper sphere seems to magically light the cone at the top.
The design was influenced by other skinny lamps of the period and by the Memphis style. Its appearance fits with the Post-modern look that was popular in the 1980s.

The Time was Right

Time Magazine included the Strala Lamp in their Best Design of 1988 issue. Suddenly, the lamp was in big demand! Ten were ordered for a castle in Edinburgh, Scotland and the lamp appeared in the film Dead Ringers.
