Gym Chair

Inspired by the Gym

Look familiar? The Gym chair was inspired by the traditional plywood chairs found in school gyms across Canada. Jones updated the chair by using new materials - at first translucent polypropylene in bright colours (some with sparkles!) and later, with Lignasil. Just like the old gym chairs, the new ones can be stacked.

From beer coaster to your bum

Jones designed the chair for Keilhauer, a successful Canadian seating company that specializes in contract furniture. Keilhauer's Research and Development department was inpsired by a beer coaster they found in their office marked "Lignasil." They convinced the manufacturer to develop a 3-D application for the material which is typically used in floor tiles. The substance is environmentally friendly. Agricultural and wood waste is ground into a fine powder which is then compression moulded.
